Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American performer, actress, and songwriter for many years. Her mother raised her in the USA and she was subject to numerous racial slurs that caused her to feel as a non-person. In the ninth grade, after a school audition in which she received praises for her voice and acoustics, she began to gain confidence. It not only boosted her confidence, but it was also a change in the direction she pursued in her career. She was a graduate of the New York's Julliard School at the age of 22. At the age of 23, her first Broadway appearance in Paul Simon's The Capeman, and her debut in the film You've got Mail were both major breaks. Her biggest break came with her role as The Lady of The Lake, in the first Broadway adaptation of Spamalot. The show won her the Tony Award and received great praise for the role. Later in the same year she was cast in the ABC program Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider acceptance for the role. Alongside being an acclaimed singer she has released two solo albums and a longer piece. As an activist, she strives for LGBT equality.
